Spanish gymnast Carolina Rodriguez, who ended her career after the Olympics in Rio last year, surprised media with her announcement that she intends to continue with the sport, it was announced by „Radio Marca León“. The 31 year-old grace, whose farewell gala is supposed to take place on the 10th of December, says she feels in great shape and that makes her not want to give up for now. Her goal for next year is to participate at the European Championships on home soil, in Valladolid, which Spain has only one spot for. „It’s not the right moment for me to say „goodbye“ and start doing other things, because I feel good and I’m continuing to train“, shared the 8th best from Rio, which last week participated at the „Liga Iberdrola“ for her club „Ritmo“. Rodriguez will do everything she can to come back to the national team as the leader and to win the place for Valladolid, and is sure she is capable of doing it. Fans have suspictions that this is actually a move on the side of the federation, since at the moment 2 of their 3 gymnasts are in the process of recovering after surgery – Natalia Garcia and Sara Llana Garcia.
Carolina has competed on international level for 16 years but due to Almudena Cid’s long carreer, for a while she is unable to shine. Thus, she partipicates at the Athens OG as a part of the spanish group and after the retirement of Cid-Tostado and her 14th place at the London Olympics, Rodriguez is already in the elite. Her biggest accomplishment is gold in the all-around at the Mediterranean games in 2013. If she gets the spot for Valladolid in 2018 it will be her 10th European Championships as a senior.
