Canada – one of the favorites for the Olympics Team Trophy in figure skating, leads after the first day of competition. „Maple Leafs“ earned 17 points after second place of the pair Meagan Duhamel / Eric Radford and third of Patrick Chan. The current second place is for Team USA with 14 points, and third is the team of Japan with 13.
A very interesting race in both disciplines. In men’s event Shoma Uno (Japan) won with 103.25 points. Second is Alexei Bychenko from Israel, and third Chan, who felled on two important jumps – the quad toeloop and triple axel. Surprisingly Nathan Chen (USA) was not at the familiar shape and finished witout oneof the jumps, then fell to his problematic triple axel. Fifth and sixth are Matteo Rizzo (Italy) and Junhwan Cha (South Korea). A very bad day for Mikhail Kolyada, whose eighth place hinders Russia’s ambition to defend the title from Sochi.
Unlike Kolya, compatriots Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov recorded the first place in the pairs – 80.92 points. The young athletes left behind the experienced Duhamel and Radford and Aliona Savchenko/Bruno Massot (Germany). Aliona had a problem with landing the throw jump. Alexa Scimeca Knierim/Chris Knierim (USA), Xiaoyu Yu/Hao Zhang (China) and Vanessa James/Morgan Cipres (France) follow in the standings.
This night the tournament continues with ice dancing, ladies and pairs free programs.
