Ivan Dinev – Bulgaria’s most succesful figure skater continues his great work as coach in USA. Dinev works with his wife Angela Nikodinov and the „golden girl“ of rhytmic gymnastics Anastasia Sharenkova. Their students Beverly Zhu and Goku Endo won the national titles in novice category.
Beverley was the first in both programs and won with the 167.69 points, leaving the second Emiliya Zingas 34 points behind her. Endo had to fight for success, ending with 156.14 points. Despite being in the novice category, Goku fell into the national team for the Junior Grand Prix series this fall and finished 14th in the Zagreb (Croatia) tournament.
A year ago, Dinev brought Kaitlyn Nguyen to the junior ladies’ title. Last night she participated in the women’s competition, but we saw her with a new coach, Tiffany Chin, after traveling with the Bulgarian for a Grand prix series in the autumn. Nguyen is temporarily 17th.
In women, Brady Tennell recorded the record for the US championship score of 73.79 points for a short program. After her are Mirai Nagasu, who did the triple axel, Karen Chen, Angela Wang, Ashley Wagner and Mariah Bell. As it is known, this competition determines the teams for the Olympics, the World Championships, the Four Continent and the Junior Worlds that will be in Sofia (Bulgaria).
